Building a motocross paradise 20 minutes away from the mecca of professional golf in Georgia

A family that plays together stays together. That was the idea for the customer and his son. Both shared a love of motocross and a desire for a custom-built track. Fortunately, the father owns a sprawling 45-acre plot in Thomson, Georgia (McDuffie County). If you’re unsure of where Thomson is, it’s 20 minutes away from the golfing mecca of Augusta National Golf Club (where The Masters are played). Eastern Georgia is a beautiful part of the country. The customer’s property was no exception. There were mature trees separated by open land. It was an excellent location for a motocross track.

The MX Track Builders team set to work building a track that maximized the site’s footprint. Half of the 0.75-mile-long track cut through the woods, offering a nice respite from the southern summer heat and providing a visually different feel. With 50 feet of elevation from one end of the land to the other end, we were able to design a massive 100-foot triple step-up. We also built ascending and descending tabletops, which added to the track’s uniqueness. Other features included a variety of rollers, doubles, tricky off-camber, and banked turns for bar-dragging fun. It was truly a motocross rider’s playground.

The setting for the Thomson, Georgia track felt like one of those old “Dream On” advertisements from Fox Racing. Imagine a perfectly manicured motocross track, with a trackside shop and house in the background. A place where one can watch the action on the track while relaxing in a pool. That dream is a reality for our customer in Georgia.
