Shaping terra firma into a motocross paradise in central Pennsylvania

With every track build comes steps necessary for the product to be successful. We had our work cut out when rebuilding Pine Hills MX in Northern Cambria, Pennsylvania. The MX Track Builders team utilized a large D8T bulldozer to strip topsoil from the site, which we later returned to the track as a final finish topcoat. Part of the finishing process included the use of a compact track loader outfitted with a soil conditioner to screen any rock from the surface of the track. Soil composition for that region is a loam and rocky mix, so removing the unwanted rock resulted in a premium finish on the track.

Also, on the must-do list was to dig a trench and relocate a shallow gas line running through the middle of the site, which we accomplished with an excavator. With the layout set, we excavated the track’s infield, bulked soil into place, shaped the obstacles, used a wheel loader to place topsoil, completed a final grade and track profile compaction. The attention to detail resulted in a long-lasting track capable of handling the rigors of intense use.

Pine Hills MX was re-born. A flat and narrow track was replaced by a sprawling 10-acre layout, with over 80 feet of elevation from end to end. Obstacles included a massive 80-foot triple step-over, camelback, rhythm section, step-down, rollers and tabletops. While Pine Hills MX is currently a private facility, the owner hopes to open this motocross dreamland to the public in the future.
